birdwatcher's stable

Situated on a private residential property in the Pacific Northwest, this custom barn celebrates the owner's dream of horse keeping at home without compromising aesthetics.  Thoughtfully detailed with wood cladding, plywood soffits, and weathering steel to compliment the existing architecture of the main house, this modern barn prioritizes equine health, durability, and ease of use.

While small in scale, the barn graciously accommodates the daily needs of its residents and trail riding owner.  The two-stall layout is supported by a feed room, heated tack room, and dedicated storage.  Open transoms above the stalls promote continuous airflow, supporting a healthy environment for the horses and reinforcing the barn’s light, open character.  Deep roof overhangs protect every entry, creating sheltered, dry zones outside the stalls and extending the barn’s usability in all seasons. The result is a compact, modern barn that feels both refined and hardworking, equally considered for horses, owners, and its architectural setting.
